Stand for Nature Cardiff

What are we doing?

The Cardiff Stand for Nature group has been very busy over the course of this project, working on engaging with nature across our incredible capital city.

Creating Space for Nature

Last year the group ran a Wildflower Awareness Campaign which aimed to raise awareness about the importance of no-mow and 1-mow areas across the city. The group also helped to build a pond in a local community garden, which has since filled and brought a whole range of new wildlife to the space.

Campaigning for the Climate

The group also helped to write the Youth Manifesto for COP15, a document outlining the asks of young people across Wales for nature. This was incredibly well received by the Welsh Government, and the CEO of the Wildlife Trust Craig Bennett even mentioned it in one of his panels at the event!

Monitoring Wildlife

Our focus this year has been on recording and collecting species data from across the city, with our forum members leading a nest box monitoring project at Forest Farm. Some members have also been helping with dormouse surveys across Cardiff, with more opportunities like this coming up in the summer.

Restoring our Rivers

We're campaigning to Save Our Taff from sewage, plastic and chemical pollution. We're working to involve local communities and undertake citizen science to monitor river health. We will present this evidence at the Senedd during our 2024 Stand for Nature summit. Our aim is to ask our government what they are doing to tackle this issue, and to make sure they recognise the value of the Taff.
