We are delighted to share with our members the exciting news of the success of our recent appeal to install two new web cameras on WTSWW’s Skomer Island!
Thanks to your generous donations and unwavering support, we have reached our goal of raising over £5,000, ensuring that everyone can now experience the wonders of Skomer's wildlife from the comfort of their home.
Skomer Island, nestled off the coast of Pembrokeshire, is a treasure trove of biodiversity, home to thousands of Puffins, Manx Shearwaters, and an array of other fascinating species. However, its remote location has made it inaccessible to many wildlife enthusiasts. With your help, we are changing that.
Our Colony Camera will provide captivating views of North Haven, showcasing the bustling activity of seabird colonies throughout the day and night. From Razorbills to Guillemots, and of course, the beloved Puffins, viewers will feel like part of the colony as you witness these charismatic creatures in their natural island habitat. Additionally, viewers will also have the opportunity to observe seals basking on North Haven beach and swimming in the surrounding waters.
Meanwhile, our Burrow Camera will offer a unique glimpse into the intimate lives of Manx Shearwaters as they nest, mate, and raise their young. From the hatching of an egg to the fledging of the chick, you'll be able to follow every step of this remarkable journey from the comfort of your own home.
These webcams not only provide unparalleled access to the beauty of Skomer but also serve important purposes in education, science, and safety. They will help us engage and inspire new audiences, educate future conservationists, monitor seabird populations, and ensure the safety of our island team and visitors.
We are immensely grateful to each and every one of you who contributed to this appeal. Your generosity has made it possible for us to bring Skomer Island to screens worldwide, fostering a greater appreciation and support for our precious Welsh wildlife.
Together, we are making a meaningful difference in conservation efforts, and for that, we extend our heartfelt thanks.
Keep an eye on our social media channels and website for the launch date and how to tune in!
