The Sustainable Farming Scheme aims to create long-term framework for future agricultural policy and support, in the pursuit of more a more sustainable agriculture industry. This holistic approach will ensure the economic, environmental, and social outcomes from land management practice can be delivered for the long-term benefit of the nation. The Scheme has been designed to support famers to deliver on the following Sustainable Land Management objectives:
- to produce food in a sustainable manner
- to mitigate and adapt to climate change
- to maintain and enhance the resilience of ecosystems and the benefits they provide
- to conserve and enhance the countryside and cultural resources, promoting public access and engagement with them.
The scheme aims to incentivise sustainable agricultural practises by encouraging farmers to produce 'public goods'. These include clean air, carbon storage, and resilient ecosystems, among others.
In this phase of the co-design of the scheme requires farmers and landowners to take part in a survey to feedback on the proposals in the Outline Sustainable Farming Scheme document.
The aim of this survey is to better understand how the actions and processes indicated in the outline proposals for the Sustainable Farming Scheme will work for farmers and their farm, and what type of support may be needed.
It is estimated that the survey will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete and will be open until 31/10/22.
